Sekou Nkrumah
The controversial son of Ghana's first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou Nkrumah, said the creation of six more regions was wrong because it will not tackle the root cause of the underdevelopment problems in Ghana.
Ghana has now created six new regions bringing the total number of regions to sixteen, last week and much of this week, President Akufo-Addo spent time appointing the capitals of the new regions.
A referendum was held in the areas to be divided to form the new regions and the people there were very generous.
The referendum was successfully organized and the majority of voters voted YES for the proposed new regions. Voters had the YES or NO option for the proposed regions.
The new regions created as a result of the referendum are Bono East, Northeast, Ahafo Region, Northwest, Savannah and Oti.
The ten regions of origin were the Bono Ahafo, Central, West, East, Volta, Ashanti, Upper Middle, Upper, and Upper regions. -West, Greater Accra and North.
But Sekou Nkrumah believes that the creation of six additional regions is a useless enterprise.
"6 other regions? What's all this? Will the creation of more regions really answer our problems? He asked.
"Honestly, I do not see how creating more regions will solve the problems of our poor national infrastructure and development! After all, where do the resources come from? Even Ghana, same central government! So distributing the same resources in 10 regions or 20 regions will produce the same results, "he explained.
"In fact, it will create more bureaucracy, more bottlenecks and more corruption, work for boys, etc.! Instead of creating more regions, the government should create more roads, highways, and so on. to better connect our cities, villages and cities! ", He added.
