Sarkodie Strongman Survive Strongman and Sarkodie

This is the end of the journey between Kumasi's young rapper, Strongman, and BET's winner, Sarkodie.

Music label SarkCess Music, on Sunday, April 14, announced the end of its contract with Strongman after two years of labor relations.

"SarkCess Music wants to announce the end of its contract with Osei Kwaku Vincent, well known in the world of showbiz as Strongman," the press release said. "Working with a jewel like this for two (2) years is priceless."

According to the label, which also signed Akwaboah, their trip with Strongman was "remarkable and amazing" and that the rapper has "unquestionably revealed a sensational talent, honoring the Ghanaian music industry and the world over after his hit and incredible performances.

The press release ended with a promise: "our doors are always open and we promise to help in any way possible if our services are needed".

In a separate statement, Sarkodie said: "On paper, we may be at the end of a trip, but in reality, the magic persists. We thank God for seeing us through this wonderful relationship. We set a time to do the story together and we did it !! Thank you for allowing me to be part of our success and your legacy. Time is up! To take the world, Strongman, always know that you are my favorite [sic] Emcee and the world do not see half of what you have. You are still that n **** #WateAnaa.

Sarkodie signed Strongman on March 25, 2017, following rumors. Strongman actually announced the news during my first interview with Pulse Chat in 2017.

Sarkodie said at the signing, "If you ask Sarkodie what is my favorite MC, it's Strongee cos [sic] it's very difficult for a rapper to listen to one of his colleagues, but this guy, I can say regularly, always finds a way to surprise me when he drops the bars. It's an honor to have this talent right here.

Strongman joined SarkCess Music after graduating from the University of Cape Coast. He had left Mic Burnerz – an independent label based in Kumasi – before finishing UCC.

Under SarkCess Music, Strongman has had some success. he released an EP entitled "Still That 9igga", which won the "New Lord" Award at the 4Syte Music Video Awards 2017, the "Best Rapper" Award at the first edition of the Ghana Music Awards SA (South Africa) , and released some singles including including "Transformer" with Akwaboah and "Baby Girl" with Kuami Eugene. He also won a nomination at this year's Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for "Song of the Year Hiplife" with "My Baby".

Before joining SarkCess Music, he was an independent artist. He recorded his own songs and financed his own music videos. He managed to work with some great rappers, including Edem, Shaker and Yaa Pono, and got two quite popular songs. "Oh Joo" and "Market 24/7".

But what does the future hold for Strongman?

It's directly from the shoulder and call a cat a cat: it's going to be tough for the young rap virtuoso.

Many will agree that recording agreements is one of the main factors preventing Ghanaian talent from achieving excellence. Even the talented hunting shows that have given juicy contracts to its winners over the years have not been able to accompany them to the top.

Zylofon Media, a promising brand formerly, is crushed in the blink of an eye and its artists suffer the consequences. Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are doing well, but Kumi Guitar, Obibini and Becca, who were not on any label before joining Zylofon, were very affected by the wave.

There have been other stories of successful artists who have had difficult moments after leaving their labels. Eazzy, OJ Blaq, Zigi, Irene Logan and Asem's release of Richie Mensah's Lynx Entertainment label earned them a hard time. The release of Kofi Kinaata from Samini's high-ranking family partially affected him. E.L's release of BBnZ Live affected him.

Only a few have survived such breaks. Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale are some examples.

But can Strongman survive?

The truth is the same: it will be difficult for him to establish a "full-fledged" label like SarkCess Music during this short period to continue his success story. Unless he has a big "plan B", he will struggle to continue the success he has enjoyed under his previous label. His future is just fanciful, but the good news is that it's a new challenge for him. He decides to win or lose.

Nevertheless, I hope this will not become another déjà vu and that SarkCess Music will keep its promise.
