Septic tank traps two dead on Boxing Day

Police are investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in a septic tank in Amasaman in Accra.

A third person, Felix Azilagbeto, who was found with the two deceased: Ebenezer Boye Nartey, 35, and Samuel Oko Ayitey, 39, at the residence of one of them, Kwame Ayamba, are currently being treated in a hospital.

Deputy Police Superintendent Effia Tenge, chief of the command’s public affairs unit, told GNA that on December 26, 2020 at around 8:30 a.m., police received information about the deaths of the two people who allegedly attempted to dislodge a look for an Ayamba.

She said investigations revealed that on the same day, the plaintiff retained the services of Ebenezer Boye Nartey, a septic tank vehicle operator, to dislodge the waste from his septic tank.

DSP Tenge said Nartey, after dislodging the waste, decided to enter the tank which was about 15 feet deep to investigate the cause of a leak he observed.

She said Nartey, however, cried out for help after entering the tank and passed out.

“Ayitey, who also entered the manhole to help Nartey, suffered a similar fate,” police said, adding that a third person, Felix Azilagbetor had a rope tied around his waist and entered. the manhole to bring out the two but also is passed. and was promptly removed and sent to Kamet Hospital for treatment.

DSP Tenge said the dead bodies were later recovered with the help of officials from the National Disaster Management Organization and the fire department.

She said Azilagbetor was responding to treatment after the two corpses were taken to the police hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
