After being away from family for almost ten years, US Sgt Staff Staff. Anthony Tillman made a special gift to her daughter by surprising her on stage during her bachelor's degree, Hello America reported.
Sgt. Tillman has been in the army for 18 years. He served in Iraq and was recently posted to Korea. Because of his deployment, the only interaction he had with his family was via FaceTime. With the graduation of his daughter Kayla on the horizon, he did not know if he would be able to be present for the privileged moment. After returning to his position in Fort Benning, Georgia, attending the commencement ceremony became a reality. Tillman first told his daughter that he would not be going to graduation, but she knew little about the fact that he planned to travel 600 miles from Fort Benning to Fort Lauderdale for the ceremony. He worked with school administrators to organize this unforgettable moment for Kayla. Just after graduation, he surprised her on stage. The opening ceremony of St. Thomas Aquinas High School is transformed into a warm meeting between father and daughter in front of 524 graduates and their loved ones.
"When they started playing graduation music, tears began to flow in my eyes, because at that moment, I realized how much his life had failed me," he told the press. "I did not know what my kids were going through without me being physically there. It was rough for her, and I'm proud she finished her studies knowing that her father was in the army and not there, like her fathers of friends. For the situation we were in, I am so proud of her. Kayla, who will go to university in Louisiana, was moved when she saw her father on stage. She stated that finding her father had made the experience of her experience in high school much more special.
Sgt. Tillman is expected to be stationed in Georgia in the next few years and plans to spend a lot of time with his children.
