BARCELONA, Spain (AP) – ShakiraThe group's public relations firm claims that the Colombian pop musician denied any wrongdoing when she testified before a judge in connection with an investigation into her alleged tax evasion in Spain.
Prosecutors accused the singer in December of not paying 14.5 million euros (about 23.5 million euros) in taxes in Spain between 2012 and 2014, while she lived mainly in the country despite an official residence in Panama.
Her public relations firm said in a statement released Thursday that "Shakira has always respected its tax obligations, including between 2011 and 2014, in all the countries in which it has worked."
He adds that "as soon as she was informed of the amount that she should pay, according to the Spanish Tax Office, … Shakira has paid the full amount."
