At age 20, Shawn Mendes is not of legal age to drink in the United States.
This means that, although he was twice nominated at the Grammy Awards, Mendes was still too young to drink at the awards ceremony this year.
In the UK, however, where the legal drinking age is 18, this is not the case and Mendes seemed to make the most of it at the 2019 BRIT Awards.
At the awards ceremony, which took place at the O2 Arena in London on Wednesday, February 21, Mendes was seen tasting the wine offered.
"At Grammy, you were not old enough to drink," said event host, comedian Jack Whitehall, while interviewing Mendes at his table for the evening.
"No, but I'm here," Mendes answered, taking his glbad of white wine.
"I have wine here, thanks, UK, for that, thanks."
Mendes is Canadian. Even though he can not drink in the United States, he can enjoy alcohol at home.

Whitehall made two or three particularly British jokes that may have been lost to the singer.
He offered Mendes a bottle of blue WKD, which is an iconic drink among British youth and an integral part of growth in the UK for many.
Whitehall also suggested to Mendes to make the most of his stay in the UK and to "surrender the bladder", which means very drunk.

Needless to say, the singer looked moderately puzzled at the British humor of Whitehall, simply replying, "Of course, of course."
It is not known if Mendes had bladder later in the night, but tables were not lacking alcohol: Champagne Laurent Perrier, Gray Goose vodka, wines, Malibu, Camden Hells beer, Becks beer, etc., were all offered, ensuring that the A-list guests were well lubricated all night long.
