Shazam after the generic scenes Explained: Who was the caterpillar?

This last scene featuring Superman is not the only DC cameo at the end of Shazam! The mid-term credits scene pays for an Easter egg planted earlier in the film by introducing viewers to Mister Mind, who is truly one of the strangest (and most ridiculous) DC supervisors of all time. You could end up wondering: who was the caterpillar in Shazam?

Eating Mind is one of Shazam's oldest opponents and a deep reference to the DC Comics reference. Briefly previewed previously in a window of the Rock of Eternity, this same affair is then seen empty. These moments are paying off in the middle credit scene. While furiously writing hieroglyphics on the walls of his cell – desperately trying to recalculate how to regain the magical powers he lost – Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong) is visited by Mister Mind, who appears on the edge of the window of the cell. (The director of Shazam !, David F. Sandberg, confirmed to IGN that he also embodied the character.) The brief scene suggests that any partnership exists between these two villains, with Mister Mind referring to Seven Realms …

So who is Mister Mind? Well, it appeared for the first time in 1943 in the pages of Captain Marvel Adventures. In the original comics of Fawcett (and later, DC), Mister Mind is a two-inch worm from the planet Venus that has plans on conquering the Earth. Mister Mind relies on his organization, the Monster Society of Evil, to execute his despicable designs. Mister Mind has telepathic powers that give him the ability to hypnotize and control spirits. He can also spin super-strong silk at a super fast speed. His gaze has gradually evolved from stupid – a worm that wears glbades! – as a result of the infinite crisis of DC Comics.

Over the years, Mister Mind's Evil Society on Evil included such personalities as Dr. Sivana, Mister Banjo, and Captain Nazi. Given Sivana's links with the Monster Society, Shazam's mid-credits scene! Is she really creating a sequel?

If Sivana and Mister Mind team up in a Shazam! 2 so maybe the movie will inspire from the current Shazam! Comics written by Geoff Johns. This ongoing scenario, entitled "Shazam and the Seven Magic Lands", sees Sivana and Mister Mind joining forces as Billy Batson and his adoptive brethren explore various fantasy realms. Hmmm, Mister Mind checked the names of the Seven Kingdoms in the middle of the credits …

When we recently spoke on the phone with Shazam! Producer Peter Safran, he was reluctant to commit any potential follow-up to necessarily paying off this mid-credit scene. "We have not understood at all what we will do next. We were so focused – and that's the truth – we focused on making a great independent film, "Safran told IGN, noting that no consecutive project would be in place until the release of the first film .

As Safran explained, "The reason we put this [Mister Mind] in there, and we have this scene is, we just like the idea, we like this character. The idea that it is this criminal brain, but in the body of a worm of space, is just hilarious for us. We liked the idea of ​​placing it in the Rock of Eternity so that those with bright eyes could spot it. Most people do not go. But people will spot it and bring it back to you at the end. So we thought it was a really fun and surprising thing to do. I think that for our audiences who are really engaged in the film, I would not be surprised that the film ends and that they rush to their computer to try to understand a little more this character. (I hope they're finding that by reading this very article!)

Saffron would not close the door completely to Mister Mind who was coming back for a sequel, however: "It's definitely a path. And I like the idea that it's been around longer than Lex Luthor. Why not be part of the DC universe? The cinematic universe, at least. "

But Mister Mind and Dr. Sivana are not the only allusions to the Monster Society of Evil in the film. During the sequence of interdimensional doors, a door opens to reveal playing cards to reptilian extraterrestrials. Director David F. Sandberg confirmed to IGN that it was the Crocodile Men of the planet Punkus, many of whom played a role in the Monster Society of Evil at the time of the Golden Age of Comics.

Shazam !, contains other notable Easter eggs, notably on the post-generic film scene of the movie where Shazam and Freddie make fun of Aquaman's ability to talk to the fish. The fact that Freddie is dressed in Aquaman Merch corresponds to the previous sequence of the movie from the toy store, in which the CSEW heroes even make toys and derivatives in their own reality.

This toy store scene also includes a tribute to the 1988 film, Big, when Shazam leans on a pedal piano, a transparent nod to the iconic dance scene of this clbadic Tom Hank. Big has long been cited as a model for Shazam! film, with its whimsical story of a boy who finds himself trapped in the body of an adult.

And no, your eyes did not deceive you. It turns out that Lex Luthor and Dr. Sivana have the same father – okay, the same actor plays them. Smallville's John Glover, who played Lionel Luthor in the series, describes Sivana's same big-time (and big-bad) business father in Shazam!

Director David F. Sandberg has worked in the film with two more personal Easter eggs, both of which pay homage to his horror roots. His wife, actress Lotta Losten, who starred in her revolutionary short film Lights Out, embodies the doomed scientist working with Dr. Sivana.

Eagle-eyed fans will also be able to see the demoness Annabelle doll in the Philadelphia pawn shop that Billy Batson visited at the beginning of the film. Director Sandberg's film before Shazam! was Annabelle: Creation, also produced by Safran.

Saffron credited Sandberg with having thought of the demon doll cameo: "He and I share this story of Annabelle: Creation together, and we loved the idea. Obviously, we put one in Aquaman as well. It's just a fun little Easter egg that's perfect for a pawnshop. It was awesome because in Annabelle 's very first film, it' s there that we first saw the doll lying in a pawnshop. Annabelle comes home!
