With Aquaman unexpectedly becoming the biggest hit of Worlds of DC so far, Shazam! continue their journey of success?
If the first criticisms are similar, it will be a resounding yes.
The critical consensus seems to be that Shazam! is a good dose of zany charm in a cinematic universe often characterized by its dark perspectives. Some even call it "one of the most fun superhero movies ever made".
The stars Zachary Levi and Faithe Herman deserve individual praise, and the film is described as a cross between Superman and Large.

It presents a singular vision rather than Frankenstein's monster Justice League, the chaos of Aquaman or Wonder Woman and Batman v Superman, who were charged with lumpen bad guys CGI.

Levi, whose work has for the most part adorned the small screen of Mandrel in the last season of The wonderful Mrs Maisel, has a puppyish charm, throwing himself into the role with total surrender.

The cheeky balsa wood thing about Levi's performance is that he does not make fun – he's totally sincere. It's just that he plays a superhero with a major case of impostor syndrome. AT Shazam!, we seem to be watching a sacred satire of a cartoon movie that is also, in all respects, the genuine article. The film is mocked, but Shazam's prowess is astounding, especially because it's amazing him.

If the Wonder Woman and Aquaman The films were DC Comics' first big screen debut of Zach Snyder's austere color palette, Shazam! takes us deep into the primary colors in a single binding. There's always a touch of urban decadence and warmth from the kitchen table – this is by no means the business of Warren Beatty.
