SHIELD becomes cosmic.

This is a first spoiler-free review of the premiere of Season 6 of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD series, which was shown to fans of WonderCon before it debuted on May 10th.

The SHIELD fan agents at WonderCon had a Marvel-ou treat; not only the premiere of Series 6 was announced (May 10), but they also took a look at the opening of the season, which was directed by star of the Clark Gregg series.

If you have already caught the season 6 caravans that Marvel and ABC have been using since January, there is nothing to prevent us from stating that our dear agent, Phil Coulson, is (to our knowledge) truly officially dead following the events of the season. 5, Clark Gregg always appears in front of the camera, as well as behind it. Coulson appears as a hologram giving guidance advice to Mac, but we are also introduced to a mysterious man in black who shares Coulson's face but, when he is challenged to be "dude" SHIELD, "replies coldly," has never heard of it. "

This is not the first time that SHIELD uses a familiar face for a nasty twist, but without going into details, it's safe to say that Gregg seems to love the opportunity to play a darker role and succeeds even with a convincing threat. in his brief time on the screen.

Marvel has released a preview of Anti-Coulson's debut on Twitter – check it out below:

Without revealing too much, the premiere of season 6 begins a year after the events of season 5, with Daisy, Simmons, Piper and Davis on a mission in space to try to recover Fitz from his cryogenic gel. Meanwhile, Mack is trying to settle as the new director of SHIELD and expand his ranks. The earth part of the team is trying to detect a strange anomaly that continues to manifest in different parts of the world and that causes "distortions of reality".

But with Fitz AWOL and Simmons looking for him, SHIELD misses his two brightest minds, which means the team has no theory about what might cause these anomalies or how to track them. May has been commissioned to recruit new agents, but as Mack notes, "we have a lot of muscle, we need brains". You can expect to meet a new recruit from SHIELD who could prove very helpful in helping to understand what's going on, who has a story with May and who has no real enthusiasm for participating in spy games.

Somewhere in space, Daisy and Simmons' team has been looking for Fitz for months and the tension is starting to show up. Daisy used his powers to make an impression with the alien races encountered to make sure everyone knows that Quake is a threat, but it could also attract the attention of another hostile intergalactic force – a force that should be familiar to SHIELD. fans of previous seasons.

After last year's space adventure, it's nice to see SHIELD agents venturing even deeper into the cosmic world, as do MCU movies, and you can expect to impressive visuals (especially given the television budget) while Daisy's team travels unknown alien world in the first. And although we do not have much context for Clark Gregg's new character (except that he and his detachment have a slightly crazy vibe, and a lot of heavy weapons), we are eager to see how he interacts with our team. , considering that he is wearing the face of their fallen leader.

While the premiere of season 6 is truly a staging for the biggest conflicts to come, it's certainly not as mysterious as the premiere of season 5 was about threats to our heroes, setting the stakes by expanding the world to show it intriguingly. The episode also does a great job in introducing and enriching a number of SHIELD support officers in order to truly immerse in the team dynamics even outside of our core team, which the series has managed to do with Piper and Davis in recent seasons. . We still have a lot of questions (and do not expect the series to mix with the fallout of Avengers: Endgame, which will be in the room a few weeks before the first of the season), but it marks a promising start for the new season , and a satisfying way to keep Gregg involved without minimizing Coulson's death.

Agents of SHIELD Season 6 Marvel will air Friday, May 10 on ABC in the United States.
