GOMA – Eight people died in three shootings in Goma, eastern DRC, the mayor said on Sunday, while others complained that authorities were slow to respond to violence in the province of North Kivu.
"In Mugunga (district), shots were fired last night, five people were killed and more injured, and in Katoy, one person was killed near a gas station and further north in Buhen, two people were killed, "Timothee Muissa Kiense told AFP, adding that investigations were ongoing.
Benin Butatunda, vice president of a youth badociation in Mugunga, said "attackers shot at pbadersby, authorities did not intervene in time to save lives.
"There is a lot of tension in Mugunga and people are angry at the authorities' lethargy," said Butatunda.
