Sergeant Atsu Sekey, former president Jerry John Rawlings police force appointee, narrowly escaped death on Saturday night from suspected thieves, who shot him several times at the crossroads. Community 22 of Tema.

Sgt. Atsu escaped with a broken arm bone and has since been transferred from Tema General Hospital where he was admitted for the first time.

A security source said that no less than 16 pellets had been removed from his body and that he "was saved by his instinct … he jumped behind a truck and that saved him."

Sgt. Atsu reportedly shut down work and returned home after being struck by the driver of an unregistered Toyota Corolla that was driving in the wrong direction.

"The driver hit Sgt. Sekey while maneuvering in the wrong way and failed to stop. This led to a hot pursuit and after Sgt. Sekey caught the car in a stalemate and fell. The guy managed to turn around and rush over the runner with the car and started shooting. It was probably a second person in the car who had shot, "said the security source.

The source stated that the attacker (s) intended to "have caused him serious harm" and that it was at that moment that he had instinctively jumped behind a truck to flee.
