There were gunshots at a meeting between NDC presidential candidate Sylvester Mensah and party delegates in Suame on Monday in the Ashanti region.

According to sources, the incident was caused by some confusion surrounding the bus transportation of delegates to the place where Mr. Mensah was to meet them.

Other sources also claim that the shooter, who was not arrested, belongs to other presidential candidates and aims to sow fear among the delegates.

Suame district organizer, Saani Mohammed, who confirmed the incident at Starr News, accused constituency secretary Brogya Gyamfi of staging the violence.

At the same time, Mr. Gyamfi denied knowing about the attack.

Opposition party delegates will go to the polls on Feb. 26 to elect a candidate to run in the 2020 elections against the new ruling Patriotic Party, which has not yet chosen a candidate.

Mr. Mensah, formerly head of the National Health Insurance Authority under the former NDC administration, is one of five other people who challenge former President John Mahama.
