LONDON: Drinking orange juice daily could reduce the risk of fatal stroke by almost a quarter, suggests a study.

The study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, showed that people who consume juice daily see their risk of brain clot reduced by 24%, reports the Daily Mail.

In addition, rates of heart disease were also reduced among regular drinkers, who were 12 to 13 percent less likely to suffer from damaged arteries.

Fresh juices have long been considered healthy. But in recent years, consumers have been discouraged by warnings about their high sugar content.

Despite the obvious benefits of juice, it is also recommended to eat the whole fruit.

The researchers noted that the health benefits in terms of preventing strokes could outweigh the risks badociated with sugar content.

"We have found a favorable badociation with the consumption of pure fruit juices," said researchers at the Dutch National Institute of Public Health.

They are not the only ones to benefit from this advantage: fruit juices also seem to reduce the risks, they noted.

Juice is thought to contain many of the natural plant substances found in whole fruits that can protect blood vessels from disease.

However, despite the obvious benefits of juices, the team nevertheless recommends eating whole fruits, as many studies confirm its benefits.

For the study, the team examined nearly 35,000 men and women aged 20 to 70 years.
