– President Akufo-Addo challenged the NDC opposition party to provide evidence of improved cocoa production under former President John Mahama

– The president was speaking in front of a durbar in Daboase, the capital of the district of Wbada East, where he went as part of his tour of the bread basket of Ghana, the Western region.

President Akufo-Addo applauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that the Mahama administration had "zero" for agriculture and cocoa production.

He invited the NDC to provide evidence of any policies implemented during its mandate to boost the agricultural sector.

The President was speaking during a visit to Daboase, the capital of Wbada East District, as part of his two-day tour of the Western Region.

"I want to hear what they will say about this challenge: we ask them to come and tell us what they did to boost agricultural production, cocoa production in Ghana,Nana Addo dared.

"I can tell you the answer in advance; its zero, zero, that's the answer."

The president reacted to John Mahama's claims that the NPP government was "mean" to the country's cocoa farmers.

Mahama said, "I am very sad for our cocoa farmers. We had good plans and started to implement good policies for the cocoa sector. "

According to him, cocoa farmers had better annual yields when fertilizers were made free.

The NDC's flag bearer asked why the Akufo-Addo government would end such an initiative and instead sell fertilizers to cocoa farmers.

However, President Akufo-Addo said that his government had done more in three years than the Mahama administration in the agricultural sector.

According to him, the NDC government has failed to maintain the progress made by the Kufuor administration in cocoa production and in other areas of agriculture.
