The highly contagious COVID-19 strain, Delta has been registered at one of Accra’s high schools.

This was revealed by the director of public health of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, in an interview with GhanaWeb on Saturday.

According to him, most of the students who contracted the virus were asymptomatic and respond to treatment.

“There is an epidemic in the school (name withheld), they did some tests, some of them had a Delta strain … Noguchi decided to do some specialized testing … when they did the tests. tests, they realized that some of the students had Delta tension… most of the students are in fact asymptomatic and I’m sure on Tuesday they would all have been released, ”said Dr Asiedu-Bekoe.

He noted that these recorded cases of the Delta strain show that the highly contagious variant is in the community.

Although details of the particular school and the number of students involved were not specified by Dr Asiedu-Bekoe, a GhanaWeb source close to a health facility where some of the cases were said to have been confirmed revealed that two of the affected students had been brought to the school by their parents for testing.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Information announced on Friday that the deadly variant of COVID-19 Delta had been registered in the country.

The Delta variant, which originated in India, is said to be the most contagious of the COVID-19 variants.

The ministry also advised the general public to strictly adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols to protect their lives.
