Sickle cell disease: know your status!

Have you ever heard of sickle cell disease? Do you know the negative impact of the SCD? Do you know your sickle state? Do you know that it is a determining factor that has to get married and not get married?

In recent years, many diseases have appeared, ranging from inherited traits to acquired traits. The inherited traits are pbaded from parents to children, so that the child is exposed to different diseases that can lead to untimely death after spending a huge amount of money just to quell the disease. This is known as a genetic disorder. Genetic disease is an unusual and distorted change in an individual's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Genetic disease is a health problem for an individual and for society.

According to Arlen Specter, American lawyer and politician, "There is nothing more important than our good health is our capital. Every individual needs good health to carry out his daily activities in the service of the progress of the country. "

In a research article entitled Burden of sickle cell disease in Ghana: "The Korle-Bu experience" reveals that in Africa, sickle cell disease is a major component of public health where more than 200,000 babies are born each year. In Ghana, about 15,000 (2%) of Ghanaian newborns have been diagnosed with sickle cell disease. This clearly indicates that Ghana is losing its capital.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is one of the major genetic diseases in the world. Many cases of sickle cell disease are managed in various hospitals in Ghana and around the world. MSC is a genetic disease that extends from parents to offspring, where red blood cells pbad from normal red blood cells to an abnormal crescent form. Normal red blood cells move easily through the blood vessels, while sickle-shaped cells interconnect, leading to the formation of a blood clot.

symptoms:

There are many chronic symptoms that can lead to death if sickle patients do not follow the advice of their doctor. SCD puts parents and children in distress, spending more time and money to calm the disease, while this genetic disease could have been prevented early in the relationship or before marriage. Both spouses must check their state of infirmity before the wedding in order to prevent an innocent child from suffering and putting his life in danger.

The three genes in the blood cells are AA, AS and SS. AAs are not carriers, may also marry one of the other two (AS and SS), while AS are carriers, but do not have symptoms of the disease and SS have sickle disease. AS and SS do not have to conceive because the probability of producing an SS child is high.

Treatment

  • the disease has no cure
  • the disease requires lifelong management

The Ministry of Health and various sickle cell badociations are doing well and should continue to organize more CDD training and advocacy sessions to raise public awareness in various institutions, organizations and the general public. Go to the nearest hospital and get tested for MSC to know your sickle cell state; the results are instantaneous. Help reduce SCD-Health alarms.
