Huddersfield manager Jan Siewert believes that a full review of the club's season is needed after a 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.
Luka Milivojevic and Patrick van Aanholt's goals in the second half mean that Town will join the Derby – relegated in 2008 – in the making Only the second Premier League team to lose its supreme flight status before the end of March.
A difficult season, in which Siewert's popular predecessor, David Wagner, resigned, gave Huddersfield 14 points from 32 games, leaving them 19 points and six games to go.
Siewert refused to talk about an immediate return possible, saying: "I will not talk about bouncing back, because it's a disappointment first.
"We have to go through all the details – what happened, the reasons.
"We were so close to winning here, and (Milivojevic's) penalty gives the game another direction with the quality of a player like (Wilfried) Zaha.
"In the Premier League, players like this decide matches."
Siewert at least promised to do everything in his power to ensure Huddersfield's return to the Premier League as soon as possible.
"Strengthening the club is not just about going down or climbing," said Siewert. "You can not promise it.
"But I'm ready to work so hard to get back to the Premier League. As a manager. if you are ambitious, of course, yes.
"We tried everything to avoid relegation but in the end we could not do it. It's hard to take after such a performance.
"We were very equal. The first half was ours, the second maybe theirs. But we had chances to win this game. In the end, it's the quality of the players like Zaha who decide these games with a fast movement.
"It's difficult to take but it shows that we are on the right track. Although we lost and it's a big disappointment, we did not give up the minute. "
