Diego Simeone has not lost his hope that Atletico Madrid will grab Barcelona in the title race despite its second Liga defeat of the season at Real Betis.
After Barca had two draws against a 2-2 draw against Valencia, Atletico had the chance to narrow the gap to three points with victory in Sevilla.
They could not leave the Benito Villamarin with anything after Sergio Cbades converted a penalty in the second half to seal a 1-0 win at home.
Atletico remains at Barca's six points with 16 games to play, but head coach Simeone is confident that his team can still catch up with the leaders.
"I'm always optimistic, I'm grateful to Barca for drawing and not being too far away," he said.
"The Barca stays in a good range so we will continue to work."

After returning from Chelsea to Spain, Alvaro Morata made his debut in Atletico, but the striker only managed one of his four chances on a 90 minute attack.
Despite the disappointment posted, Simeone was pleased with his new addition and hopes the goals will be achieved once he settles into life with the Rojiblancos.
"Morata came in and worked well, he was very excited to play, and we hope he can continue to progress on this team," he added.
