SINGAPORE, Sept. 24 (Reuters) – Singapore on Friday announced that it would tighten restrictions related to COVID-19 from next week to limit social gatherings to two people and make working from home a default, in the aim to contain a spike in infections and reduce pressure on the healthcare system.

Authorities said cases had increased faster than expected, as the city-state’s vaccination rate leveled off after hitting around 82%, one of the highest rates in the world. To further protect its population, the Southeast Asian nation is also expanding its booster vaccination program to cover people aged 50 to 59, the health ministry said.
