GOVERNOR Willie Obiano has ordered commercial activities to take place tomorrow and the following Mondays in the state, saying the government can no longer watch as the people’s economy takes a nosedive.
In a meeting with the banks in Awka, the secretary of the state government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, urged them to fully function every working day statewide.
Giving weight to the directive yesterday, Information and Public Information Commissioner MC Dn Adinuba said the ordinance also affects other sectors of the socio-economic life of the population.
According to him, all markets, as well as car fleets and commercial vehicles would now function fully every Monday and any other day of the week, with the exception of any day declared nonworking by the competent authorities.
Adinuba said: “Before Governor Willie Obiano leads a meeting with heads of security agencies and heads of state banks, including those from the Awka branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria, he had personally had frank and rewarding discussions with a wide range of leaders. from the Anambra State Transport Union and Market Association on why they have closed their businesses every Monday for the past five weeks.
“Carriers, for example, attributed their action to the inability of commuters to go out for their regular business due to fear of attacks by unknown gunmen while traders explained that without banks opening anywhere. what a day, it was hard to keep the day’s product in a safe place.
“Bankers, for their part, argued that without opening markets and people going about their normal business, there was no need to open their doors to the public.
“It is evident that the people of Anambra State and indeed the South East have been struggling for the past five weeks with a large-scale vicious cycle.
“Some students have missed the terminal endings, with all the serious implications for the competitiveness of young people and for the future of our state.
“A number of small restaurateurs have seen all of their investments destroyed by these non-state actors because they went out to pursue their legitimate business, through which they feed their families, pay house rents, pay for their education. children and care for friends, relatives, business associates and other dependents.
“Some have lost their cars and motorcycles, their only means of subsistence, to these non-state actors. The less fortunate have lost their limbs and even live most horribly in other parts of the South East.
“Since no responsible government can watch while the future of his people is destroyed for free, Governor Obiano has held useful discussions over the past two days with the groups concerned with a view to freeing the members so that they can they are continuing their legitimate activities.
“After all, the leadership of the organization on whose instructions some people claim to enforce the stay-at-home order has since rescinded the order.
“The Anambra State Government’s directive to banks, traders, carriers, other groups and individuals to resume full economic activity throughout the week starting Monday, September 13, 2021, has been informed by the aspirations of these stakeholders.
“Adequate arrangements have been made with all security and intelligence agencies to ensure adequate security for the people of Anambra State. All the black spots in the state have been identified and far-reaching measures have been taken to end the scourge ”.
