Six dead in fatal crash at Ekumfi-Dunkwa

Ekumfi-Dunkwa (C / R), March 23, GNA – Six
people died on the spot and 67 others were injured in a fatal road accident,
which took place in Ekumfi-Dunkwa on Friday 22 March at 10.30 am

The vehicles they were traveling on
collided head-on along the Mankessim-Accra stretch of highway in the Ekumfi region
District of the central region.

Four of the dead, composed of three men
and three women died on the spot while two others died at the hospital.

Public relations of the Central Regional Police
Irene Serwaa Oppon, a judicial police officer, told the Ghanan news agency that the police
were informed of the accident and immediately went to the scene and found
three vehicles involved.

It was a metropolitan transit bus (MMT) with
registration number AS 2951-10 piloted by Ernest Appiah Kusi, a Golden
Dragon / Yuton Bus with registration number GW 4368-14, led by Enusin Ahmed
Ato and Urvan bus with registration number CR 9699-18.

The MMT bus was traveling from Accra to
Cape Coast, while the Golden Dragon and the Urvan buses traveled from
the direction from Cape Coast to Accra.

However, reaching the suburbs of
Ekumfi-Dunkwa, a private car in front of the Dragon Yuton bus slowed down for
ran smoothly on a road path, but because of the excessive speed of the Dragon Bus,
the driver, who tried to avoid hitting the back of the private car, fired
on the way to the metro coming in the opposite direction, resulting in a frontal collision.

Of the 67 people injured, 23 were sent to
Apam Hospital, 21 years old at Mercy Women's Hospital in Mankessim, 18 years old
Saltpond Government Hospital and five trauma specialists and specialists from Winneba
Hospital care for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited
at the mortuary of the Saltpond government hospital for autopsy.

Ghana fire service personnel
joined the police to immediately tow the damaged vehicles to allow the
free movement of traffic.
