Six Nations: Ireland bounces with a win by beating Scotland in Murrayfield

Ireland maintained its Six Nations title alive at Murrayfield by crushing Scotland 22-13 on Saturday (NZT Sunday).

After being crushed by England at the opening weekend in Dublin, Ireland had to bounce far from home against a Scottish team confident of having the courage and the Atmosphere to end the reign of the Irish championship in the second round.

But after a breathless first half that the Irish beat slightly 12-10, they scored a third down and their defense limited Scotland to a penalty.

Scotland made game management easier in Scotland, making 15 handling mistakes, more than twice as many as the Irish. Unlike the first period, the Scots could not establish themselves in the Irish 22 nor support an attack.

Ireland's regulatory victory was somewhat brisk with the return of Joey Carbery, the author of five round of 16, after just 23 minutes when playmaker Jonathan Sexton fell for a shot at the head.

Carbery almost immediately gave Scotland his only try since an interception, but he created the only try in the second half and scored a penalty to prevent the Scots from obtaining a losing bonus point at home.

Ireland's three tries have been mixed, including the first against the race.

Scotland covered a chip from Jacob Stockdale until Tommy Seymour gave up his countryman Sean Maitland over his head and pbaded into the hands of the Irishman Conor Murray.

The test was a double blow for Scotland. Half Star Star Stuart Hogg was later hit by Peter O. Mahony, flew over the Irish flanker and crashed to the right shoulder. The wound forced Hogg to go soon after.

Ireland then scored from a complex midway shot. No. 8 Jack Conan pbaded the ball to Sexton and Stockdale timed his run into a huge gap to perfection. He was too fast for the cover.

Sexton got converted for 12-3 but then he left and Carbery arrived.

Carbery had an immediate impact and was brilliantly read by his Scottish counterpart, Finn Russell, for an intercept at 55m. Russell ran 50m, then was on his back when he raised the ball for Sam Johnson to score. Grieg Laidlaw converted and Scotland trailed 12-10 with more than 10 minutes at halftime.

Scotland seemed to be holding the ball all the time, including a 25-phase move after which Seymour should have scored in the right corner, but he had to slow down to catch a pbad behind him, giving Stockdale time for # 39; choke.

The half-hour skelter made the crowd shudder in the sun, but it also seems to have tired both teams as the game unfolded in the meanders of the second half, between the 22.

Carbery misplaced the action by accident, when he escaped a double tackle attempt by Scottish attackers Allan Dell and Rob Harley and found himself suddenly uncovered midway. Converging the defense, he sent a loop pbad to Keith Earls on his right to finish. Carbery added the extras for 19-10.

The converted try defeated the Murrayfield crowd until Laidlaw's second penalty put Scotland tied.

But Laidlaw was replaced after Carbery's penalty kick restored Ireland's lead over nine points 11 minutes from the end. And the Irish had no trouble in keeping a reduced Scotland full time.
