They pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime, badault, unlawful damage and theft
Six young men who allegedly attacked a barber and destroyed his property for 29,400.00 crowns were released on bail of 15,000 crowns, each with five guarantees to be justified by the Tarkwa circuit court.
The six, Obed Opoku 29, Mohammed Awel 26, Kbadim Osman 30, Haruna Issah 23, Ali Shaibu 29, Tofique Bawa 27, are all illegal miners, while Ebenezer Botsio 20 is a buyer of gold.
They all pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime, badault, causing unlawful damage and stealing, and would reappear in court on February 5.
Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, prosecutor, told the court that the plaintiff, Wisdom Quagye, had a barber in the Tarkwa market.
According to her, the defendants are residents of Tarkwa and belong to a group called "Abolos" with suspects Mohammed Awel alias Apakalo and Ali Jara, who are both on the run as gang leaders.
On January 13, 2019, around 9:30 pm, a misunderstanding ensued between Mohammed, Haruna and a Ransford Baiden while they were in a tavern located in Low Cost, a suburb of Tarkwa.
Mohammed and Haruna called Tofique to ask for help and he informed the others.
Inspector Anaman said that he had quickly mobilized members of the group, including Obed, Kbadim, Ali, Ebenezer and other members currently on the run.
They then boarded a Kia truck and went to the tavern, but when they arrived, Ransford had already left.
According to the prosecution, the accused knew that Ransford was the best friend of the complainant. They then went to his barber to look for him, but met his absence.
She added that they had therefore expressed their anger at the applicant and subjected him to severe beatings in front of his shop until he managed to escape. .
However, the group vandalized the glbad door, the mirror, the sterilizer, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the window and the applicant's laptop, worth 20 400 GHAC, as well as its daily sales of 900.00 GH.
Inspector Anaman stated that they went to the complainant's gymnastics center and vandalized the place, after which they took away gym equipment.
A complaint was lodged with the police and the accused were subsequently arrested.
