Marcel Sabitzer has hinted he would be open to a move to Liverpool when the transfer window reopens this summer.
The Reds have found themselves linked with the Austria international in recent weeks after expelling his side RB Leipzig from the Champions League last month.
With his contract with the Bundesliga club expiring in 2022, the playmaker has so far resisted accepting new terms with speculation about his future as a result.
Leipzig would be in favor of selling Sabitzer this summer, rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, two of the teams alongside Jurgen Klopp’s men, who are supposed to monitor his situation .
And when asked about the possibility of a move to Anfield or Old Trafford, the midfielder was certainly open to the prospect of a move to either of the Premier League giants.
“I can imagine it a lot,” he said in response to Kicker, as quoted by the Daily Express.
Meanwhile, Sabitzer has found himself playing a deeper role in recent weeks for his German side.
Having previously been mainly used as an attacking midfielder, a more withdrawn role looks like Klopp’s treatment of Gini Wijnaldum during the Dutchman’s stay at Anfield following his move from Newcastle United in 2016.
Sabitzer has been touted as a potential replacement for the Liverpool number five, who is without a contract at Merseyside this summer and currently looks set to move on.

And his adaptability in his new role would only appeal to the Reds boss if he decided to pass for the Austrian.
Although the 27-year-old was not asked about the possibility of replacing Wijnaldum, he did share his take on how he appreciates his new position.
“I enjoyed the position. The new position also changed my game again,” he said. “In the middle, you’ll get more of the ball and you’ll have to make decisions faster.
“However, I still have the urge to create something in an offensive way.”
If Liverpool move to Sabitzer, he could become the second player the Reds sign from RB Leipzig this summer following reports of their interest in Ibrahima Konate, after signing Naby Keita from the Bundesliga club in 2018.
