Sixty UCC students receive a grant of 100,000 GH ¢ for social change projects

Cape Coast, April 26
GNA – Sixty students from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) received a
GH ¢ 100,000 grant from Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES-Ghana), a group of young people
development, to undertake social change projects.

Students are
should use the money to implement innovative responses to social impact
projects aimed at solving the problems facing the University or its surroundings
communities to improve life.

The forms of initiative
Youth Leadership for Social Change project, implemented by
YES-Ghana, in collaboration with the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs of
the three recipient universities with funds from the Ford Foundation.

The two others
the beneficiary universities are the University of Development Studies (UDS),
Tamale and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).

A total of 300 000 GH ¢
were awarded to student teams to implement social change initiatives
and social justice interventions.

Mr Eric Saforo, the
Project Leader Youth Leadership for Social Change, Revealed
this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a
Innovation Fair organized to recognize the efforts of students trained under the
Project.

He said the students
pbaded through a rigorous training academy and placed in five groups of 12
each of its members, responsible for identifying social problems and finding innovative solutions,
through a proposal.

Mr. Saforo stated that
social groups have identified social problems and an evaluation committee composed of
Faculty members and experienced development officers who have verified
feasibility of implementation, evaluated them.

He said the students
would benefit from the technical support needed to implement their programs
group projects.

As a member of
Project, the project fellows received rigorous leadership training
for social change through the youth academy for social change.

They have continually
received professional supervision from selected faculty and industry members
players and the next step is to demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired,
he said.

Mr. Saforo stated that
practical application of the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired by
Training was essential to ensure that the fellow learned to generalize
and apply the knowledge gained in other situations.

Through this process,
Young leaders will be more involved in their communities and will provide real
services, he added.

YES-Ghana seeks
create an active youth who would seek solutions to problems and offer a
ability to combine leadership with technical skills to help them perform
better in the world of work.
