The Player Impact Program is certainly an interesting proposition and it could well be something dressed up as something else, to keep the current assets of the PGA Tour interesting.
I’m not sure the optics are that great at the moment behind Covid-19, with a lot of people losing their jobs and businesses struggling to stay afloat. You suddenly get very rich people who are given even more money to do something they wanted to do and are very good at, not what someone asked them to do.

At the end of the day, I’ve always thought FedExCup was the payoff for making a huge impact on the golf season. Personal contracts and cash prizes flow from the profile of the players you’ve attracted to your site, so they’re all rewards for success.

It’s just weird, isn’t it? You can see what people are trying to do, they are trying to generate interest. Social media can be a good thing, but it’s also a horrible thing. Sponsors and promoters can benefit massively, but it is surely the meritocracy of golfing ability that interests us.
Potentially, you annoy someone who is just quite quiet, going about their business under the radar, and someone taking care of their social media for them. They aren’t that colorful, they’re not as charismatic and quirky, but are a good golfer.
Why should they be losers because they don’t get 200,000 extra hits on social media or whatever? I’ll pay you to keep Google typing my name and see if that gets me up in the rankings – I think I’ll get the family involved!
The players who play well and play well are already making incredible financial rewards, although it is worth pointing out that the PGA Tour is putting a huge amount of money back into the game. They are putting money back into the grassroots. and into charities and reinvest millions in our sport, which is only fair to mention when we talk about the downsides of the $ 40 million.

As long as the money is still available – what I understand is that it is there – and people are still talking about it, it will always stay on people’s minds.
