A broader set of features refers to the renewed interest of the company for its Android application, lagging behind the iOS app in terms of updates.
Snapchat has updated the application and optimized it for the Android operating system. Since Android is the most used mobile operating system in the world, an updated application could potentially significantly expand its user base.
As the numbers today show, that's exactly what happened. According to CEO Evan Spiegel, Android users are sending 7% more snapshots with the new version of Snapchat compared to the old version.
Face filters
In addition to an updated application for Android, Snapchat's successful quarter can also be credited to a viral face filter.
Snapchat has developed a filter that allows users to look like the opposite bad. The photos created with the filter were shared beyond Snapchat, which encouraged people to download the app if they did not already have it.
This type of viral success is hard to maintain. People may have downloaded the application to use the filter without having the intention of making it a daily habit.
