Snapchat looking for music licenses for their application

Snapchat has already gained popularity recently with its recent filters that make men look like gorgeous women and vice versa. It now seems that Snapchat is putting its efforts to a higher level in the search for music licenses that users can use for their application.

The company is currently in talks with Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group to license songs that users can incorporate into their publications, according to a statement. Wall Street Journal Report. The agreement would give users access to an extensive catalog of songs to publish on Snapchat, similar to the features available for Instagram Stories and TikTok.

The licensing agreement also comes at a time when technology companies are turning more and more to the musical functions at the heart of their offerings. It's thanks to this popularity that Nas X's "Old Town Road" has become a hit song, while TikTok has made it a memorable song.

Facebook also signed a licensing agreement with the three major record companies in 2018, allowing users to license music in their videos on all of its platforms, including Facebook itself, Messenger, Instagram and Oculus. The company used this license to deploy features like Lip Sync Live, an obvious copier of Musical.ly, which was acquired by the Chinese giant ByteDance and integrated with TikTok last year.

TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, is in the process of concluding more licensing deals when launching a streaming music service. Although Snapchat's licensing agreement is not as important, it's still a step forward for the app to remain competitive against Facebook and TikTok.
