The soldier was sentenced after the council set up to investigate the case found him guilty of misconduct contrary to the code of ethics of the Armed Forces of Ghana (GAF).

The committee, chaired by the unit commander, Lt. Col. WAK Ackah (GH / 2927), made the decision after asking questions about the soldier's actions.

Section 19, Volume 1, paragraph 1, sub-paragraph 2, which deals with misconduct by an agent, reads as follows:
