Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rejected comments that Manchester United's top four hopefuls would have been boosted by their rivals' progress towards the European semi-finals.

Tottenham beat Manchester City dramatically Wednesday to qualify for the last four in the Champions League, while Arsenal and Chelsea have both won the Europa League and will face respectively Valencia and Frankfurt.

All three teams face a series of tests to finish the season, both nationally and Europe, while United focuses solely on the top four.

But Solskjaer does not believe that the European progress of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs benefits United, and would far prefer to be in their shoes.

"This will probably give them a boost by playing these games," said Solskjaer.

"That's what you want, we would have liked to be able to play a semifinal, but not the case.

"These three games are our goal in the short term and should not think of anything but a great week."

After leaving the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona, United now faces three extremely important – and challenging – matches to qualify for the top four.

The Reds, who are currently sixth, will travel to Goodison Park on Sunday to face Everton, then host the Premier League contenders and fierce rivals Manchester City midweek, before facing Chelsea at Old Trafford a few days later.
