Ole Gunnar Solskjær believes that some members of his Manchester United team need a "reality check" before a potentially decisive period for the club.
After a 3-0 defeat at midweek Barcelona, United was knocked out of the Champions League in the quarterfinals, meaning they've lost five of their last seven games.
United faces a battle to qualify for the European elite club competition and although Solskjær is satisfied with the attitude of the majority of his team, he has delivered an offensive to other players.
"I learned a lot about them in the months I spent here," said the manager before Sunday's game at Everton. "You get to know them; most of them really impressed me with their attitude and some need to know their reality.
"When you're there, there is no hiding place, you can not hide and everyone can see where your levels are. We are also working on training here with a fantastic staff. I have to create this culture that we want.
"You have players to take care of what's going on here too. But of course, field performance will determine where their careers are. But most of them know that they can improve if they continue to work as they do. "
Anthony Martial, who signed a new five-year contract in January, however, drew Solskjær's discontent, but has delivered disappointing performances in recent weeks.
The manager said, "I've talked to people and they know about it, and Anthony is one of them. I told them individually what we expected of them.
"Anthony has a huge talent, he signed a new contract, he knows we believe in him, so keep working. I think anyone who plays for Manchester United should do their best to stay in the team and stay in the team. "
Solskjær is facing a summer of upheaval as he again seeks United to face the national and European fronts, but he warned that a series of signatures would not be a panacea.
