If you have been subscribing to YouTube TV for a long time, it is likely that a subscription to Showtime is preparing for the summer at no additional cost.
As reported by Engadget, YouTube rewards subscribers who have been using the streaming service for some time with a free subscription to Showtime. What we do not know yet is how long your YouTube TV subscription must be active to be eligible. YouTube simply describes the offer as being open to "longtime friends".
The Showtime offer will grant access to all service content, but without the usual $ 10.99 per month fee (or $ 109.90 per year). It is also nice to hear that the free subscription does not end with an automatic renewal with attached fees. You can continue to watch until September 5, and then decide whether you want to continue or not. Obviously, Showtime is hoping that you will pay and stay subscribed after that.
When PCMag reviewed Showtime in February, we found a decent programming of original series and enjoyed offline downloads, live TV and movies. But it's expensive, so this TV offer on YouTube is worth it so you can see if the usual $ 10.99 subscription fee is worth it.
The price of YouTube TV increased from $ 39.99 to $ 49.99 in May ($ 54.99 through Apple). This additional $ 10 gave you nine new channels including Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, Animal Planet, Travel Channel and MotorTrend. However, rising prices remain difficult to bear, so offering Showtime for free could help long-time subscribers who are considering canceling their cancellation to choose to stay a few more months.
