Sony has announced the first new color variant of its robot dog Aibo restarted. The "Choco Edition" gives Aibo a coat in two pretty shades of brown, keeping the paws and white paws. It is available for pre-order in Japan from today and will be available from February 1st.
As always, robot dogs are not cheap. In Japan, Aibo costs 198,000 yen, or about $ 1,800, with a flat fee of 2,980 yen ($ 27) a month for LTE connectivity and cloud services, although you get a discount if you pay for three years.

Perhaps to convince potential buyers of the value of a robot dog, Sony is partnering with the Japanese residential security company Secom to provide new features. Sony has also coined the word "securitainment" to describe the concept of a cute robot dog patrolling your home and providing reports on what it finds. The first new features will be released as part of the Aibo 2.0 software update next month.
