Jozy Altidore's magnificent first game set the tone for Toronto, who added two more goals to defeat the New York Red Bulls 3-1 at BMO Field.

The New York Red Bulls have rejected the transfer offers of an unknown international of the Premier League for the American international Aaron Long, and are not interested in the sale of the defender during the current transfer period, said several sources at ESPN FC.

Sources confirmed a report by broadcaster Brian Dunseth that a Prem club had submitted several offers for the 26-year-old defenseman. But the sources added that not only did the Red Bulls reject the bids, they also refused to make a counter-offer or start new discussions. One source said that moving long-term "is not something that interests the Red Bulls" and "is not a thing in progress".

Another source said there was still a chance to play long this season and sell it during the winter transfer window. Long's contract, which he signed before the 2019 campaign, has two and a half years to run and includes one year of option.

Long has seen its stock soar in the last two seasons. He was cut twice by MLS teams and played with the New York Reserve team in 2016. But he became a pillar of the Red Bulls. Long made 83 appearances in the league and playoffs, scoring five goals.

Long has also become a centerpiece of the US national team. He started five of the American team's six games in this summer's Gold Cup. He made 11 international appearances in total, scoring twice.
