Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel gave his coach Gernot Rohr a boost for his African Nations Cup quarter-final against South Africa.
The Super Eagles midfielder took part in a light practice during the team's recovery session Sunday morning, seven days after losing 2-0 to Nigeria in Madagascar.
With this development, Rohr would be optimistic about his chances of playing against Bafana Bafana for a spot in the CAN semifinal on Wednesday.
He gave a positive update to the press after his men silenced Cameroon at Saturday's meeting at the 16th in Alexandria.
"Mikel is already trying to run, so we'll see if he could be fit once for [South Africa] confrontation, he says.
Shehu Abdullahi, meanwhile, could be retained for the selection after recovering from a thigh injury sustained in Burundi.
"We hope that Shehu [Abdullahi] can come back he was on the bench [against Cameroon]Rohr continued.
"At the moment, I am very happy that we have competition for positions in the team, this gives us choices to make in case other players are tired or injured."
