South African Airways to resume flights on September 27 after Covid-19 airport closure

Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, His Excellency Charles Owiredu, has announced the new date for the resumption of flights to Accra by South African Airways.

His announcement came after South African aviation regulators reinstated the airline’s operating license earlier this month, paving the way for its resumption of services.

In an interview with Kobby Kyei, who is on a working visit to South Africa, Mr Owiredu revealed other plans the South African and Ghanaian governments are putting in place to ensure the two countries deal with their affairs in candy.

One of the issues that came to light during the interview was the postponed date for South African Airways to resume flights to Ghana.

As Mr. Owiredu explained, “South Africa Airways (SAA), you know, got in trouble and stopped flying. Now they are coming back. From the 27th of this month-September, SAA will be returning to Ghana. It’s a very good initiative. We came in and pushed for it ”.

In addition, he indicated that there are plans underway to remove visas for visitors traveling from Ghana to South Africa and vice versa. According to him, this initiative aims to ensure a traffic-free movement and transaction of businesses between Ghana and South Africa.

“By the end of this year, we will abolish visas for all categories of passport holders and there will no longer be a need for a visa to travel. You just have to buy a ticket and your passport, ”he said.

Speaking on when this initiative would start, Mr. Owiredu said the framework has been done. They only have the agreement to be signed by the two foreign ministries.

He reiterated that these are some of the measures to alleviate some of the bottlenecks Ghanaian businesses face when coming to South Africa and vice versa.
