Government sources announced on Sunday that the Korean Ministry of Commerce would submit a notice to its Japanese counterpart on Monday or Tuesday … explaining that Japan's recent export restrictions are unfair, as is the plan to withdraw the white list of Korea. The statement will ask Japan to remove the restrictions.
The ministry had asked Japan to engage in high-level talks by July 24, the last day Japan agrees to feedback, but it now appears that an answer is unlikely.
Meanwhile, South Korea plans to raise this issue at the WTO General Council meeting on 23-24 July in Geneva.
The government will send an official to explain the situation in detail and to present the case of Korea to the international community.
Meanwhile, the United States sends National Security Advisor John Bolton to Seoul and Tokyo to continue their conversations with key US allies in Asia. According to sources, Bolton is expected to arrive in Seoul on Tuesday.
Japan will hold a cabinet meeting at some point to decide whether or not to remove Korea's white list, but this meeting has not yet been decided.
If the Cabinet examines Korea's list, the decision will take effect in three weeks.
