South Korea's industrial production drops 0.7% in June

South Korea's industrial production fell again in June, which adds to the already weak aggregate output of May … while output in the services sector was reduced.

South Korea's overall industrial output fell by zero to 7 percent in June from the previous month due to lower production in the services sector.
Data released by Statistics Korea show that industrial production rose from zero to nine percent in April and that it dropped slightly from zero to three percent in May.
June output was down for the second consecutive month and it is the worst since February, when that figure had fallen to a nine per cent point, which was the biggest drop in six years.
By sector, output in the services-producing sector fell 1% year-on-month in June, while manufacturing output rose slightly from zero to 2%.
This is due to a 4.6% increase in semiconductor output that countered a 3.3% decline in automotive production.
However, the total figure was still 2.9% lower than total production in the manufacturing sector in June 2018.
Retail sales also fell 1.6% in June as a result of lower sales of cars and clothing.
Investment in facilities rose from zero to 4% in June due to higher imports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and transportation equipment.
According to Statistics Korea, the increase in investment in facilities in June was due to a sharp decline in May, but was still lower than in the previous year.
In addition, economic output indicators have been negative since March.
