South Sudan has intensified Ebola screening on its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo after confirmation of a case of deadly virus 70 km from the border, said a Health Ministry official at Radio Miraya.

Dr. Richard Lino Laku said that a team had been sent from the capital, Juba, in the state of Yei River to help local health authorities.

He also said that they were looking for people who could have taken "illegal lanes" to visit the country from the DRC, where more than 2,300 Ebola cases have been recorded in the last 11 years. month.

The 70-year-old Ebola virus survivor from South Sudan is a 40-year-old woman who has traveled 500 km from Beni in North Kivu province in the DRC, according to Voice of America citing Congolese officials.

The latest Ebola outbreak has killed more than 1,500 people in DR Congo, according to the World Health Organization.

The WHO said that "national and regional risk levels remain very high" but that the current outbreak has not been declared a global threat.

Last month in Uganda, two people from the DRC died of the Ebola virus, but no other cases were recorded outside the DRC.
