Inter coach Luciano Spalletti lamented the team's waste in front of the goals, while the Nerazzurri were forced to settle their 0-0 draw against Udinese on Saturday.
The Nerazzurri could see their take in third place shatter Sunday when Atalanta will start in Lazio, while Roma will travel to face Genoa.
Spalletti cited Inter's lack of quality in favorable situations for not getting three points, and he even made a gesture against the lack of impact of his substitutes.
"We lost a lot of balls and wasted too much in some situations," he told DAZN after the match. "We should have continued what we did in the first period after the restart.
"When we found a space between the lines, we should have finished with more quality. We hit the touchline 10 times and pbaded the ball behind our players. We should have done better.
"If we play back and forth, we fight, because we have defending players that others do not have. If Perisic's head, if Keita pulls and if all those balls in the middle of the surface …
"It's part of the game that pays dividends in the long run. I am the coach and I am like that.
"I'm expecting more players who occupy the field in the last 10 minutes, as [Antonio] Candreva. They must provide a spark. "
Lautaro Martinez started ahead of Mauro Icardi on Saturday and, although he was trained after half-time, he did not change the procedure much.
"The match went as planned," Spalletti said. "In the second half, we conceded more with two strikers on the field."
