Speaker Bagbin launches the second edition of the Inter-school Oratory Competition

Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kigsford Bagbin virtually kicked off this year’s inter-school public speaking competition in Accra, with a call for candidates to use the platform to influence and change lives in a positive way.

“Use public speaking to positively influence society,” President Bagbin said.

He welcomed the formation of youth groups to participate in discussions on national issues, saying such groups that ensure citizen participation in governance should be encouraged by all.

President Bagbin said: “The formation of youth groups and movements in response to the appeal of His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for Ghanaians not to be spectators, but citizens in the governance of country should be encouraged and supported by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

He added, “So youth groups like Youth in Politics, Youth in Development, fix the country now are all positive developments that should be encouraged and supported and that resonates well with the call of the inter-school leadership contest. public speaking for Ghanaian youth to participate in the nation-building debate.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Digital Inclusion: Promoting and Protecting Children’s Rights Online”.

President Bagbin observed the facilitation of digital technology in mass communication, scholarship and research, business and commerce, and medicine, and said it also kept businesses afloat as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Digital technology, however, noted the President, is challenged, among other things, by the elusive digital identity that gives rise to cybercrime and online fraud.

Children are also vulnerable to cybercrime.

President Bagbin noted that a number of laws in Ghana are put in place to protect people from digital breaches.

He suggested that the young people draw deep into their imaginations in researching and applying knowledge to innovate in their efforts, as he wanted the best speaker to come out of the competition.

Born in 2020, the competition takes place this year from September 21, 2021 to November 20, 2021; and is organized by DeeDee Global Limited, in partnership with the Secretariat of the Speaker of Parliament, the Ghana Education Service, the Ministry of Communications and Digitization, the Ghana National Data Center / National Information Technology Agency and the Data Protection Commission.

It is designed to discover, recognize and foster the dynamism, creativity and initiative of Ghanaian youth in promoting a culture of patriotism and national development;

It aims to create a genre of speakers who will use public speaking to positively influence society; and offers students recognition and encouragement towards successful careers in public relations, competition, film and advocacy.

According to the organizers, the entry video is a freestyle prayer on the theme “DIGITAL INCLUSION: PROMOTION AND PROTECTION OF CHILDREN’S RIGHTS ONLINE”.

Schools can use one or more people to deliver the theme in less than 3 minutes. Videos longer than 3 minutes will be disqualified. Each school can only enter one video for the contest. Shortlisted schools will proceed to the following stages.

The Grand Final (plenary, that is, the “Speaker of Speakers” session) is held annually in person on November 20 to join with the UN and the rest of the world in commemorating Universal World Day. ‘childhood.

This year’s final will therefore take place on Saturday, November 20, 2021.
