Club sports director Marcel Keizer gave Manchester United hope to sign the contract with Bruno Fernandes, acknowledging that the future of the midfield was still uncertain.

Fernandes was notable for Sporting last season, scoring 32 times in 50 appearances. The 24-year-old midfielder resumed the same path where he stopped with a goal and badistance against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp praised Fernandes following Liverpool's 2-2 draw at New York's Yankee Stadium and claimed that the sensational Portuguese would make United more "strong" they concluded a agreement this summer.

It is understood that United is lining up £ 50 million for Fernandes after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified it as one of the main goals of the club, with Sean Longstaff of Newcastle.

After the draw between Liverpool and Sporting, Keizer confirmed that Fernandes aroused keen interest and that he could not exclude a movement for the Portuguese international.

"I can say about Bruno that he is a very good player and that he is important to us," said Sporting's manager.

"Of course everyone would like him to stay, but we do not know the situation at the moment, he is here but we do not know what the future holds, so we will have to wait.

"We know clubs like him, so we have to see what's going to happen."

Before leaving for the United States, Fernandes said he was eager to qualify for the Premier League.

"It's the president who decides, not me," said the sought-after midfielder.

"I do not care about the market, I've talked about it a few times. The only thing I can do now is that I need to catch the plane so I do not miss it.

"I told you I'd like to play in England, but that's not what I'm interested in. Maybe it's when the club decides.
