With the Avengers: End game, Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker is probably the next most anticipated film of 2019. The film will bring the saga Skywalker in the Star wars the universe to the end, but after some threatening laughter at the end of the first trailer, fans ask themselves an endless amount of questions about how all this will materialize.
Thanks to the return of the director J.J. Abrams, everyone keeps Star wars secrets even more ferocious than usual but star of the franchise Daisy Ridley We have just seen an epic laser saber fight between his character Rey and the leader of the First Order, Kylo Ren.
Daisy Ridley recently appeared on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Collider) and, although she can not reveal any important details about the film that has yet to be revealed, she discussed the next confrontation between Rey and Kylo Ren. This is what Ridley had to say:
"I just think they did a great job with all the relationships. With the funny friendships, and with the kind of strange thing with Rey and Kylo … we also fought a lot. A awesome fight. And I was really happy that the photos of Vanity Fair show a little. It's a good fight. As if I have become a better fighter and the lightsabers have been lightened, it looks like we are swaying light and not like heavy [swords]. "
If you've ever seen scenes of lightsaber battles behind the scenes, you know how important it is for actors to be able to swing lightsabers easily. They fight very hard and you do not want to swing these gigantic lightsaber accessories again and again, making an exhausting battle sequence even more tiring. In addition, the fight sequences are probably much safer if someone chokes the choreography or misses the target.
The next lightsaber fight will have a lot of work to do if it gets to the last time Rey and Kylo Ren have clashed. That's because the lightsaber fight in Snoke's throne room The last Jedi was one of the best of the saga. Ridley did not want to say if she would win the battle, but she talked about it in the same breath, which is promising:
"[The Throne Room fight] felt pretty cool, and also it was really difficult because everything had to match. It's like a devil's blow comes and it ends up with me and I think I was fighting James at the time, the stuntman with the two swords. It was so tiring. We took 25 shots because if something did not work, we had to go on. But I was really proud of this fight. This fight was in November, we were throwing water – I will not complain about the cold, I'm just not going to do it (laughs) – so it was like a real matter of endurance. It was really epic, and even at the time. We can only imagine what it will look like.
It can be difficult for a movie like Star wars to feel really epic during the shooting, because much of what you see on the screen is animated visual effects. So, to tell Ridley that it was epic during the shooting really excited us about what we will see in this fight.
Do not forget that what we will be seeing on the big screen this winter is not the original idea of the saga finale. Director Colin Trevorrow was originally attached to the making of the film, but the Jurbadic World the filmmaker eventually withdrew after creative differences with Kathleen Kennedy. And it's not surprising that this finale is quite different from what Trevorrow intended to do (though part of his development was successful in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge).
Ridley does not know everything about what Trevorrow wrote about the last chapter of the Skywalker saga, but she said it was "very different" from what J.J. Abrams ended up doing. Ridley explained:
"It was Josh [Gad’s] invited to [the] Murder on the Orient Express [premiere] and then we went out for dinner, and Colin sat next to me and I thought, "What's going to be?" Because everything I had heard – I did not know what had happened, I just knew that he would not do that anymore. And he somehow told me and somehow not … Actually no, we had gone to dinner and other things, we went to have dinner with Michelle [Rejwan], who is a producer. So I knew somehow. I think everything is going for a reason, I guess.
Instead, we will have a story that has been deciphered by J.J. Abrams and writer Chris Terrio. There are a lot of things to do in this movie, so I hope that they will have something satisfying for the fans. We will know when Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker arrive on December 20, 2019.
