The ending leaves Senator Singh’s next move in question. Forced to flee from Raxus and the people he has sworn to protect – you can tell the citizens worship him by the way they cheer him on at the start of the episode – will Singh come up with a plan to free the planet? And will this path lead him to become a member of the nascent rebellion which is already slowly taking root? Hopefully the series picks up on those plot threads later.

But the fact that Singh is a separatist isn’t the only notable thing about him. Longtime Star Trek fans probably recognized the voice actor as well! Yes, this is Alexander Siddig, best known for playing Dr Julian Bashir in the TV series. Star Trek: Deep Space NineIn case you don’t remember, Bashir is the titular space station chief physician, a sympathetic medic who also has a big secret that will eventually come out later in the series. Siddig’s representation of the Bashir on several levels remains one of the highlights of the Star Trek the universe to date.

You should also pay attention to Singh’s trusty GS-8 protocol droid. The droid who sets up the entire bailout is voiced by none other than Sian Clifford, who stars as Claire in the hit British drama series Chip bag. This means that the two main characters of Fleabag are now in a Star wars project. Series creator, screenwriter and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge previously played L3-37, a droid rights freedom fighter and fellow Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. I would pay dearly to see Waller-Bridge and Clifford reunite as Star wars characters. Maybe in a future episode of The bad lot?

“Common Ground” also features the return of actor Shelby Young to Star wars. Best known for voicing Princess Leia and Kneesa the Ewok in Forces of fate, Young brings his talents to The bad lot like the cruel Captain Bragg, who rules the Imperial occupation of Raxus in the episode. Young also did voice work for the Galaxy of heroes video game and The Mandalorian.
