Ernesto Yeboah is the leader of the League of Economic Fighters
The charges against the leader of the League of Economic Fighters, Ernesto Yeboah, by the state, have been withdrawn.
This was after the Accra 10 Circuit Court released outspoken national economic liberation activist Ernesto Yeboah for violating public order law.
On June 1, 2020, Ernesto Yeboah was arrested and charged with violating public order law during a vigil held in honor of George Floyd, a 46-year-old American who was killed in bizarre circumstances by Minnesota Police.
Around the world vigils and the like have been held in a sign of compassion for this incident, including condemnations from governments like that of Ghana, speaking out against the evils of racist police brutality that have continued to occur in particular in America.
The global action, dubbed Black Lives Matter, drew action from groups such as the Economic Fighters League which held a vigil at Black Star Square.
The vigil was eventually interrupted by the police overnight, accusing the Movement of not complying with the provisions of the law on public order which require notification to the police before such gatherings.
The Movement insisted, however, that it served the police with the required prior notification, but the police said the notification did not reach them at the time.
But this Monday, March 15, 2021, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Haligah told the court that the state was no longer interested in pursuing the charges, reports citinewsroom.com.
Although the reasons were not immediately attributed to the state’s sudden decision after 9 months of prosecution, the court struck the case as requested by the state.
