Former Ghanaian President John Kufuor and Other International Experts Appointed to the Bayelsa State Government International Inquiry to Assess the Level of Risk and Environmental Problems Caused by Uncertain Spills crude oil and exploration activities carried out by multinational oil companies.

Governor Seriake Dickson, at the inauguration of the commission titled "Commission of Inquiry into Environmental Degradation in the State of Bayelsa" yesterday in Yenagoa, urged them to work diligently to relieve the suffering of the population.

He added that they were supposed to obtain information on the environmental health and socio-economic, cultural and human damages caused by oil spills and other environmental damage.

He added that they also needed to badyze the mechanism between the operation of the oil companies and undertake a comparative badysis.

He said: "Determine the appropriate measure to hold faulty parties accountable for environmental degradation activities.

"Inviting evidence from international oil companies within Bayelsa during a proof session," he explained.

The commission, chaired by Mr. John Sentamu, Archbishop of York in the United Kingdom, is composed of Mr. Prof. Engobo Emesah, director of the Law School of the University of Bradford; Professor Roland Holder of the University of St. Gallen; among others.
