Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, advised Ghanaians against stereotyping any ethnic group in the country.
In a Facebook post, she called for unity in the country and respect and protection for the country’s diverse cultures.
“We must be proud of our country, protect and defend our diverse cultures and traditions and uphold the dignity of all Ghanaians, regardless of their origin.”
“We are a nation under God, a people with a common destiny. We are all beautiful children of Mother Ghana and should be proud of our unity in diversity, ”wrote the Minister of Communications.

His comment follows the Badu Nkansah publication’s “History of Ghana” manual for class 3, which sparked an outcry among Ghanaians for derogatingly describing the Ewe ethnic group.
Many notable individuals and groups, including the Volta Regional Chamber of Chiefs, have called the book “distasteful, offensive, divisive and inflammatory”.
The editors have since apologized for his “offensive description” of the sheep in the post. However, Ms. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said that whatever the apology, action should be taken to sanction Badu Nkansah.
“Textbooks are used to educate, not to indoctrinate or corrupt our impressionable youth. They must be precise and factual ”.
She said many people like her identify with many of these ethnic groups, adding that it is unfair that some of them are unfairly stereotyped.
“I identify with any group that is unfairly stereotyped or stigmatized because the blood of all ethnic groups in Ghana runs through my veins.”
“Through mixed marriages and multiple relationships, the bonds that unite us are far more numerous than those that divide us”.
