Steve Cooper is aiming for a boost for the Premier League in his first season as head coach of Swansea City.
Swansea finished 10th in the league last quarter, nine points from the play-offs.
The goal of Cooper comes despite the fact that it is unlikely that Swansea will pay a transfer fee this summer and will rely on free loans and transfers to reduce salary costs.
"There's no reason we can not promote this year," Cooper said.
"For me, it's ambition, it's motivation. It's something to aim for," he added.
"I do not think anyone will say that we can finish at the top of the table, score as many goals or score as many points, it would be an unrealistic goal.
"But a promotion for me is something we are going to do."
Swansea had a positive campaign under Brighton boss Graham Potter in 2018-19, despite the loss of many players following the relegation of the Premier League.

"Last year, the team played some very good football games, with the exception of one or two matches, it played well enough to win," he said. he adds.

"We have a young team that has 12 more months and 12 years of experience, which makes you a bit more connected to the field."
Cooper is confident that there will be "some more additions" in his squad before the closing of the transfer counter on August 8, with the strikers becoming a priority after Dan James's move to Manchester United.
"This may not be an identical positional replacement, but there is no doubt that the energy and pace proposed by Dan last year have been very positive for the performance of the company. Team, "said Cooper.
