Never missed the opportunity to explain a technology with a metaphor, Steve Jobs compared the transition between personal computers and tablets to a situation similar to that prevailing when people stopped buying trucks and were starting to buy cars (which is a dubious view of history, run with it). From Engadget:
When we were an agrarian nation, all cars were trucks. But as people moved more to urban centers, people started to get into cars. I think computers are going to be like trucks. Fewer people will need it. And that will worry some people.
I actually think Steve is right and wrong about it. More likely, more and more households will become single PCs because the need for writing, coding, or other keyboard-intensive activities will be better distributed as other types applications migrate to tablets. Only time will tell, of course.
