Stevie Wonder will headline Global Citizen Live’s 24-hour event in Los Angeles this month to help raise funds and raise awareness about poverty, climate change and the need for a better access to COVID-19 vaccine doses worldwide.
Global Citizen officials announced Thursday that Wonder will be among several artists – including HER, Adam Lambert and Demi Lovato – to participate in the September 25 event at the Greek Theater. The event will feature other performances from Chloe x Halle, OneRepublic, the Lumineers, 5 Seconds of Summer and Ozuna.
“It is again a pleasure and an honor for me to join all the artists who use their gift of song to celebrate the Global Citizen event by doing our part to fight global warming, famine and sing for equality in the world. … We Are The Village !!! ” Wonder said in a statement.
London lineup will include Duran Duran, Kylie Minogue, Maneskin, Nile Rodgers and Chic and Rag’n’Bone Man.
In the United States, Global Citizen wants the Biden administration to increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine by sharing at least 350 million doses with the poorest countries by the end of September. The organization is seeking UK government leaders to join the Race to Zero Coalition, a United Nations-led campaign that aims to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“It’s our job to scream when promises aren’t kept,” Rodgers said. “We want to encourage our leaders to make sure there are good times ahead for everyone. “
Global Citizen Live will take place on six continents. In addition to Los Angeles and London, performances and segments will take place in New York, Paris, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and Lagos, Nigeria.
Jennifer Lopez, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Usher, Lizzo, Elton John, Doja Cat, Metallica, Camila Cabello and Black Eyed Peas will perform in different locations.
The event will air on the BBC on September 25 and on ABC the following day.
In May, Global Citizen sponsored VAX Live, which generated more than 26 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine and $ 302 million for programs aimed at more equitable vaccine distribution. The event, which included an appearance by British Prince Harry, helped raise awareness around the issue of vaccine sharing.
